James J. Hill House
·
In 1909, 18-year old Celia Tauer traveled from her hometown New Ulm to "take in" the Minnesota State Fair.
While in St. Paul, Celia stayed with relatives, who showed her an ad in the newspaper advertising that the Hill family were looking for a second cook. Celia got the job, and sent a postcard home: "Hello Ma. How are you? I'm fine. Got a swell place now. My address: Celia, 240 Summit Ave. c/o J. Hill, St. Paul, Minn."
