He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and a retired coal miner with UMWA. Mr. Martin was a devout Christian and a member of Ramey Flatts Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a caregiver to all his family.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Ruby Martin; two sisters, Shirley Hale and Betty Snipes; two brothers, Darrell and Harold Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Phillips Martin of Clintwood; his son, Michael Martin of Clintwood and daughter, Jana "Nikki" Martin of Roanoke, Virginia; three brothers, Herm Junior Martin and Donald Martin of Kingsport, Tennessee, Christopher Martin and Carol of Bluefield, Virginia; two sisters, Sadie Ruth Payne of Bluefield, Virginia and Carolyn Pearson of Remington, Virginia; grandchildren, Paul, Nicholas and Zachary Smith. Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A song service will be held Thursday, October 28th, 7 pm at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends beginning at 5 pm. Funeral services will be conducted, at the funeral home, Friday, October 29th, at Noon, with Bill Knoskie and Jack Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
