He is survived by his wife, Charlene Goodwin of Troy; six children, Ann and husband, Pete of MI, Robert Goodwin of CA, Elizabeth Goodwin of MI, Richard Goodwin and wife, Shannon of MI, Douglas Goodwin of Old Monroe, MO, and Jeffrey Goodwin of Wentzville; two grandchildren, Samantha and Katie Goodwin, two great-grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends.
Robert Eldred Goodwin was born October 28, 1932 in Massachusetts; son of the late Elred S. and Elinor L. Shorter Goodwin. His mother passed away one week after he was born and his maternal grandmother helped raise him. Robert was appointed by a Massachusetts congressman to West Point Academy. He was married to Thelma Joyce and four children were born to this marriage. She preceded him in death. Upon graduation, he taught at West Point for 3 years and then worked his way "up the ranks" in the United States Army and after 34 years retired as a Colonel. He served during the Vietnam War. He married Charlene Happel and two sons were born to this marriage. After the military, Robert worked 25 years as a Logistics Engineer for Douglas Aircraft, later McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft, and retired from Boeing Aircraft.
He enjoyed trains, planes, and collecting coins.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
