Died at G.G. Camp Bootawallah, Sobraon Battlefield near the Himalayan Mountains, Punjab, India. Died of a respiratory illness/cough and received the Sacrament of the Sick by a Roman Catholic priest as verified in a letter from his father, Charles Michie, to his daughter, Mary Michie, who was married to Norman McHardy and was living in Canada.

Sacred to the Memory of John Michie Dy Regt Foreign Dept who departed this life in the G G's Camp at Bootawallah on the 19th January 1847. This Tablet is erected by his friends and office mates as a tribute of affection towards him. R.I.P.
