Margaret Elaine Mays, 91, of Amherst, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Born in Nelson County, on October 23, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Richard Shelton and Florine Margaret Lawhorne Mays.

Margaret had been a nurse's aide for the Central Virginia Training School, retiring after 38 years. She was a faithful member of Clifford Baptist Church, loved reading her bible, and enjoyed going out to eat with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John R. Mays, Wade T. Mays, Robert S. Mays, and Thurman Mays, and sisters, Dorothy M. Stinnette, Arlene Hodges, and Lillian Beale.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Nash Mays of Lynchburg; a niece, several nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Clifford Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald and Pastor Clyde Mawyer Jr. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Clifford Baptist Church, 635 Fletchers Level Rd., Amherst, VA 24521, or to the charity of your choice.
