Larry S. Brooks

Larry S. Brooks, 73, of Las Vegas and formerly of South Sioux City and Lincoln passed away on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, at Marvel Manor in Las Vegas.

Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. Visitation will at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln at a later date.

Larry was born on Feb. 25, 1948. He was the son of Al and Marie Brooks. He grew up on South Sioux City. He attended high school in South Sioux City and graduated in 1966. He was drafted into the Army and served 14 months in Vietnam in the late 60s.

When he returned home he worked at several theaters in the Siouxland area. He then joined the 185th Air Guard and became a recruiter. He then transferred to the Lincoln Air Guard where he served as their chief recruiter. He retired after 25 years of service with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Upon retirement, he moved to Las Vegas in 1997. He became a researcher and historian. He documented the military service of Dakota county residents that served in the military. He was extremely proud of our military and those that gave so much in the defense of our country.

He has left a legacy to the Siouxland Freedom Park and to the South Sioux City Schools. He wanted to assist in the further development of the park. He also wanted to assist high school students while they continued their education in college.

Larry is survived by his close friends, Gordon, Deb, and Brad Goodsell of Las Vegas, and Jim and Deb Gunsolley of South Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A very special thank-you to Gordon, Deb, and their son Brad Goodsell. They gave him tremendous support before his illness and during his difficult physical struggles with congestive heart failure. He truly appreciated the care they extended to him.
