Don E. Young, age 67, of Palestine, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in Palestine, Texas. He was born on May 8, 1954 in Palestine, Texas to parents Charles and Loretta Young. Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Crockett Road Church of Christ with visitation at 9AM under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory. A Masonic graveside will follow at Guiceland Cemetery in Grapeland.
Don was a long-standing member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ and a lifetime Mason. He spent 42 years working for the Union Pacific Railroad at the Palestine Car Shop. Don loved his dogs and enjoyed hunting. He always had a good time cooking and spending time with his family and friends.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Cathy Young; parents, Charles and Loretta Young; daughter, Emily Sparks and spouse Jeff of Palestine; step-son, Jeremiah Owens and Kourtney Hamby; step-daughter, Lacey Perry and Chris Mayhall; brother, David Young and spouse Tammy of Whitehouse; as well as six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Cecil Commander, Joel Howell, Greg Kennedy, Chris Mayhall, Jeremiah Owens, Jeff Sparks, Mike Treadwell, and Rory Wall.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Pat McCracken (cousin), and all UP Palestine Car Shop employees.
