Stephen Jeffrey Marks M.D., age 68 of Tarrytown, NY passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Dr. Ansel R. and Frances C. Marks.
A loving father, Stephen is survived by his daughters Jordan R. Marks of Englewood, NJ and Avery S. Marks of Greenwich CT; siblings Ronald P. Marks of Kristianstad, SW, Kathleen Lynn Taylor of Key West, FL and Leslie G. Ritter and husband Matthew of Middletown, NY; former spouse and the mother of his daughters Cindy G. Marks of Greenwich, CT, former spouse Debra Holstein of Beverly Hills, CA; cousins Stephanie J. and Hon. Lawrence K. Marks and many other family members, nephews, nieces, colleagues, and friends.
Stephen graduated from Colgate University, Hamilton, NY with a BA in Biology. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY and completed his internship at Lenox Hill Hospital and a Neurology residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Stephen completed a stroke fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and was a member of multiple organizations including his beloved fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta as well as Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society, Goldstein Society of Honor for teaching excellence and a Fellow of the American Heart Association.
Medicine was Stephen's passion, or as he liked to say – his mistress. He worked as a Neurologist at Westchester Medical Center and tenured professor of clinical Neurology at New York Medical College for over 40 years. His professional accolades include being the leader of the Cerebrovascular Program and Stroke Center at WMC. Stephen authored a number of articles on stroke, and was named Best Doctor by the Castle Connolly Guide 21 times and was a 17-time winner of the New York Medical College Outstanding Teacher award. His colleagues speak of his brilliance, humanity and connection with his patients and their families as second to none.
As the best physicians believe, medicine and Stephen's patients came first, however he was devoted to his daughters, his love for them apparent in all aspects of his life. They could not be prouder to have him as a father, and describe him and their connection as magical, spending endless hours together talking, skiing, basking in Broadway and most of all laughing at his unique and incredible sense of humor. His other loves included windsurfing, music, sports, gadgets, learning and teaching us all.
Contributions may be made to the organization of one's choice which supports and protects our environment, one of Stephen's many philanthropic passions and great concern of his. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
