Shirley Matthews, 83, of Edgington, passed away, Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Generations at Rock Island.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to family.

Shirley was born on March 30, 1938, in Lynn, Arkansas, the daughter of Willie and Opha Simmons Lynch. She married M. Ray Matthews on September 2, 1954, in Lynn, AR and he preceded her in death on December 13, 2006.

Shirley worked in production at Servus Rubber in Rock Island; she later worked in the cafeteria at Rockridge High School. She was a member of Landmark Baptist in Rock Island. Shirley enjoyed reading, traveling, playing the penny slots on the boat and watching her grandchildren play sports. She also enjoyed camping and going to bluegrass festivals.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Rachael (Alex) Ortega of Davenport, grandson, Zach Dusenberry of Moline, great granddaughters, Zoey and Lydia; son-in-law, Dan Nixon of Davenport; brother, Virgil Lynch Ark; Sister, Clara Wise, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters, Starla and Michelle; sisters, Marie, Mabel, Angie and Isophene.
