Vivian Sedell Johnson

September 3, 1928 – October 23, 2021

Vivian (Solem) Johnson was born September 3, 1928 in rural Spink, South Dakota to John and Selma (Holthe) Solem.

Vivian "Viv" grew up in the Union County/Spink township farming community. She attended North Spink School. She met Ernest "Ernie" Johnson and they married on September 30, 1949, at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD. They were lifelong members of the Roseni Church. Vivian enjoyed being involved in Church events and you would often find her helping in the kitchen preparing meals for church events. She and the other ladies made gallons of egg coffee and served delicious food over the years. Ernest and Vivian were farmers and raised livestock together for 55 years and were happily married almost 60 years. They were a true team and helped each other in anything the farm needed. Their animals were treated with the utmost care. She had a love for animals, especially dogs and cats were very spoiled by her. She delivered many lambs into the world day or night. Their farm was their pride and joy and they worked tirelessly throughout the years.

Vivian kept a beautiful vegetable garden on their farm. Weeds did not stand a chance in her gardens. She canned many of her home-grown vegetables. Vivian made delicious meals every day. Every visitor, to their farm, enjoyed coffee and her fresh baked cookies or brownies while chatting with Ernie and Viv.

Ernest and Vivian retired from farming and moved to Bethesda Inn, Beresford, SD in December 2004. After Ernest passed away in May 2008, Vivian remained at the Inn until August 2020. During that time, she enjoyed visiting over coffee with the other Inn residents, celebrating birthdays and card parties together.

She also made beautiful quilts that she completed with such care and love. Vivian was a fan of baseball, especially the MN Twins. She always took time to be with her family and made them feel so special.

Vivian is survived by their daughter, Darlene Dreeszen, and son-in-law Bruce Elving of Sioux Falls; granddaughter, Darcie Storms and husband Joshua, Great grandson, Colton Storms of Tallahasee, FL; two Step-grandsons, Wade Dreeszen and Chad Dreeszen and their families all of Sioux City, IA; and sister-in-law Phyllis Solem, of Akron, IA and sister-in-law Delores Johnson, of Sioux Falls, SD.

Her husband, Ernest; brother, Stanley Solem; son-in-law, Douglas Dreeszen; and her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at 11AM Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, SD with burial to be held in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

The memory of a good person is a blessing.
