Tony Ray Wright (Age 80) passed away peacefully at his home in Paragould, Arkansas, on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, surrounded by his wife of fifty years, Bonnie, his son, Scott, and other family and friends. Tony was born on February 16th, 1941, in Lafe, Arkansas, to Arizona and Troy Wright. He graduated from Marmaduke High School in 1962. During the Vietnam War, Tony honorably served his country in the Army, rising to the rank of corporal. Following his postwar return to the United States, Tony began working as a milk process operator at Foremost Foods' Dairy Division, where he met Bonnie. They married on October 9th, 1971, and four years later, Scott was born. Tony began working at the Dana Corporation as an auto parts manufacturer in 1986 until his retirement in 2003.
Tony worked tirelessly on his family farm for forty-seven years, raising crops and cattle alongside his brother-in-law, the late Bill Burton. He was happiest outside in the sun with his hands and clothes covered in sweat and dust. His determination and profound decency were perhaps best reflected in his tireless work ethic. Tony sacrificed many long hours toiling on the assembly line or in the cattle pasture, hoping to provide his family with a better life and brighter future. More specifically, he wanted his son to have the educational opportunities and chances in life he never had growing up impoverished in the northern Arkansas Delta. Scott will graduate with his Doctor of Education from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville in December.
Tony quietly practiced his Christian faith by modeling his life after the Golden Rule. He was always quick to help any neighbor in need; no task was too great or small. Tony enjoyed riding his four-wheeler to check on his neighbors on Walcott Road. He found joy in life's simple pleasures like eating homemade ice cream that he and Bonnie would make on hot summer days or watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball if they were having a good season.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bonnie of the home and son, Scott of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Tony leaves behind a dear friend and neighbor whom he considered family, Jeanina Smith of Paragould; his sister-in-law, Sammy Kaye Burton of Paragould; brother-in-law; David Washam of Paragould; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Resinger, Emma Lee Lewis, Farra Mae Washam, and his brother, Eldon Wright.
Following Tony's final wishes, the family will receive friends and loved ones from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26th, at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould. A celebration of Tony's life will conclude in a burial service with military honors at 2:30 p.m. in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould. Art Smith will officiate. Ronnie Barr, Jack Jamison, Dan Langston, Chris Masters, Cory Spocogee, and David Washam will serve as pallbearers. Kenny Cline, Tony Harvey, Kenny Johnson, and Eddie Gene Wright will serve as honorary pallbearers.
