On October 21, 2021, Maria Angela Velez passed away peacefully after a 41 day battle in the hospital with covid pneumonia. Angela as she was known was the biological mother of Michael. However, countless people considered Angela their surrogate mother and grandmother including her nieces and nephews. When her sisters, nieces and nephews and grandchildren were young, the phrase "No, I don't have anything for you to eat" didn't exist. She would always whip something up for you no matter what time of day or night. It was her way of showing you that she loved you. She was an exceptional human being and mother to all of us. She chose to live a simple life with her sister Marina and brother-in-law Jorge with whom she resided for most of her life experiencing everything together. She was smart and thrived teaching her son and goddaughter their multiplication tables. You could always count on her asking you two questions every time she saw you; "How is school? Did you eat?"
She cared deeply for her family and loved ones in Colombia. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help. She regularly brought meals to the home of sick or poor neighbors and frequently asked if anyone had any gently used clothes for those in need. Her favorited pastime was packing things for those in need in Colombia and shipping it off. She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. She told the funniest stories and gave the best advice. She was incredibly protective of anyone she loved.
Angela is survived by her sister Marina, Margarita, Beatriz, Matilde and Martha, son Michael, Grandson Michael, her nieces and nephews.
