NORTH PLAINS -- Blanche Anna Hess, 98, of North Plains died Dec. 18, 2003, at Tuality Community Hospital of causes related to age.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 23, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Bishop Kenneth Steiner officiating. Interment is to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Blanche Anna Hess was born Aug. 15, 1905, in Cambria, Wyo., to Andrew and Susi Lapota Putzy. The family farmed in Phillips, Wis., and she moved to Portland after completing her education.

She married George Anderson Hess on Oct. 12, 1934, at the Boys Home Church in Beaverton. They lived in North Plains and celebrated their 54th anniversary before he died Dec. 14, 1988.

She loved to cook for her family and prepared her favorite recipes for family gatherings and holidays. She also did crochet, needlepoint and crossword puzzles, and liked to read. She was an active member of St. Edward Catholic church for many years.

Survivors include her children, Gene Hess of North Plains, Dellareen Shipman of Hillsboro, Georgia Hess of Portland and Ingrid Holub of Cornelius; sisters, Elizabeth Fikar of North Plains and Elsie Bonnett of Anaheim, Calif.; a stop-brother, Eddie Verborvance of Tillamook; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Three brothers, three sisters and a granddaughter, Lori, predeceased her.

The family suggests contributions be the Hospice of Washington County, 427 SE Eight Ave., Hillsboro, OR 97123.
