Percy William Wright Sr., 86, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Friday, June 1, 2018, at his home.
Born Tuesday, May 17, 1932, in Franklin, NC, he was the son of the late William Taylor Wright and the late Omah Hazel (Thomas) Wright.
Percy attended Brevard College and graduated from North Carolina State University (Class of 1961) and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Air Force. He was employed with Fairchild Aircraft and Martin Marietta. For well over a decade, Percy was appointed and served on the Traffic and Parking Board for the City of Hagerstown. He was also a longtime basketball coach for the Hagerstown Junior League.
He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Shirley Queen Wright; two sons, Phillip Wayne Wright & wife Julie, and Mark W. Slifer & wife Celeste; four granddaughters, Cari Christine Wright & husband Colton Sandys Todd, Kelli Ann Wright, Hailey Gabrielle Wright, and Lindsey Erin Slifer; and grandson, William Arthur Wright.
He was preceded in death by his son, Percy William "Bill" Wright, Jr.; and his sister, Rebecca Ann Queen.
Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD. on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Services and interment will be private.
