Jane was born June 6, 1928 to deaf parents, Lyndon and Lucy Herzer. She joined her older sister, Kaye, and they lived at the Ohio School for the Deaf in Westerville, Ohio. In 1950 Jane married William Frederick (Fred) Kasefang. They had eight children together, seven of whom survive. Fred died December of 1973 from cancer. Jane later married L. W. Carlton in September of 1981.
Jane graduated from Westerville High School and continued her education at Grant Hospital School of Nursing, Columbus, Ohio. She practiced nursing in Northern, Ohio, Daytona Beach, Florida, Southern and Northern Michigan. Jane worked most of her years as an RN in hospitals, during the night shift until all the children were in school.
Jane was a member of Lyons Christian Church and a volunteer for the Wauseon Senior Center.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred Kasefang, her step-father, Volney Traxler, infant son, Russell Kasefang (crib death at six weeks), sister, Kaye McClain, husband, L. W. Carlton and grandson, Zac Kasefang.
Jane is survived by two daughters, Karen Congrove and Martha (Martin) Hall and five sons, David (Carole), Bill (Karla), Matthew (Cheryl), M. Thomas (Amy) and Robert (Beth) Kasefang. Jane is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and two more on the way.
Jane's life was her children! She was kind-hearted to her family, patients and co-workers. She was a good soul who will be missed, but it is reassuring knowing she has reached God's Heavenly Home.
A thanks to her neighbors in the Village of Lyons, Ohio who kept a watchful eye over Jane in later years. A special thanks to Jane's caregivers, Jennifer Bischoff, Amy Woodruff, Lisa Wyse and the Hospice of Northwest Ohio staff.
If you are fortunate enough to still have you mom living, give her a hug and tell her you love her!
A Celebration of Jane's life will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial contributions can be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Funeral arrangements were entrusted with Snyder-Hoening Funeral Home of Holgate, Ohio.
