Loyde Wayne Short, 77, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away Thurs., April 24, 2014, at the Highlands Health & Rehab Center in Bella Vista, Ark. He was born in the Miller Community in Bentonville, Ark., on Feb. 25, 1937, to Theodore Roosevelt Short and Thelma Witherell Short. Wayne's ancestors were pioneers who moved to NW Ark. in 1866.

Wayne attended school at the Miller School House north of Bentonville, Ark. He married Jo Ann Trotter on his 19th birthday, Feb. 25, 1956. Both are natives of NW Ark. He was a lifetime member of the Miller Community Church.

Wayne retired from the Ark. Game & Fish Commission in 1999 after 32 years of service. He was the assistant manager at the main hatchery in Centerton, Ark., which had 17 ponds on 141 acres. After retiring he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his farm.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Jo Ann, daughter Melissa Renee' Barron, granddaughter Brooklyn Cummings, and brother, Leonard Short. Wayne is survived by wife Ruth Tune Short, children Melinda, Melanie, and Tim (Shelly), all of Bentonville, Ark., and Misty Pruitt (Shane) of Hiwasse, Ark., 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Miller Community Church at 1 pm Turs., April 29, 2014, followed by the service at 2 pm. Officiants are Randall Caselman and Pastor Fred Pearrow. Burial will be at the Miller Church Cemetery [adjacent to the church].

Memorials may be made to the church, 12788 Punkin Hollow Rd., Bentonville, Ark. 72712. Arrangements are entrusted to the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale, Ark. Online condolences: www.backstrom-pyeatte.com.
