Hugh was the son of Hugh Hann and Elizabeth Orrison.
He married on May 29, 1850, Delaware County, Ohio, to Sarah Jane Bowers.

Died January 2nd at 10 o'clock a.m., Hugh Hann. He was one of Iowa's old settlers and a pioneer of this county, a beloved citizen by all who knew him. He was a member of the Methodist church at Peru. His funeral occurred at the Methodist church where a large concourse of people gathered to pay the last rites to the dead. Rev. Gardner preached a very feeling and touching sermon.
