LaRea was born in Cornerville, AR, December 10, 1936, to the late Francis Sanders and Gladys Marie Beard Tucker. She was raised in Star City, AR and graduated from Star City High School in 1953. LaRea attended Southern State College in Magnolia, AR majoring in elementary education.
As an adult LaRea lived many places: Texas, Tennessee, Spain, Hawaii, Illinois, Florida, and New York. She then settled in Virginia where she lived for the last 40 years.
After a long career working as an administrative assistant, LaRea retired from Unisys Corporation in 2008. LaRea then volunteered for several years at the Shepherd Center in Vienna, VA coordinating community services for senior citizens in the area.
LaRea taught Sunday School, was a deacon, and the church treasurer for First Presbyterian Church of Chester, NY. Throughout her life, LaRea loved playing piano, enjoyed all types of music and was an avid reader. LaRea often said her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. Her happiness came from spending time with her family, friends and cherished pets.
LaRea is survived by her three children, Sandra Lucas of Stanley, VA; Kevin (Diane Silien) Carter of Highland Lake, NY; and Melinda (Terry) Null of Purcellville, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Beth Lucas Dantinne, Shelli Lucas, Shaun Carter, Casey Carter and Dan Carter, 7 great-grandchildren, and many others who called her Grandma and were related by heart.
In addition to her parents, LaRea was predeceased by great-granddaughter, Alexis LaRea, and sister, Carolyn Tucker Bozeman.
LaRea will be laid to rest next to her sister and parents in Cornerville, AR. Per her very practical instructions, this will be done when her children "can get a good airfare".
A Celebration of LaRea's Life will be held December 11, 2021 in Purcellville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
