He married Judy E. Fox on September 5, 1980, at Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur and she survives.
Dale was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling. He was also a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau.
He was a 1971 graduate of Bellmont High School. He was a farmer and had also worked for B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn for over 43 years where he worked in the shipping department.
Dale was a lifelong farmer…who loved his John Deere equipment. True to his farming roots, when farming he was happy and had a smile…when not farming…not so happy. His grandson was the apple in his eye and the key to his heart.
Survivors include his wife, Judy E. Scherer of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Dr. Megan M. (Dr. Derek) Pinkham of Ellsworth, Maine; grandson, Arlo Pinkham of Ellsworth, Maine; brother-in-law, John Casey of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his four legged farmers, Bella and Lexi; Judy's surviving family, mother, Mary Fox of Decatur, Indiana; two sisters, Deb Fox of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Kristi Garcia of Roanoke, Indiana.
Dale was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Casey; father-in-law, Leonard Fox; and his farmer-in-crime, Scotty (Richard Scott).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen.
Family and friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
