DR. WILLIAM BANTA DIED LAST SUNDAY
Well-Known, Aged Physician Is the Victim of Attack Of Pneumonia
Dr. William H. Banta, one of the oldest residents of Calistoga, died at the Calistoga Hospital last Sunday afternoon of pneumonia after an illness of only a few days duration. So far as known, he appears to have been the oldest resident in town, having arrived at the age of 93 years and 6 days.
He was a native of Missouri and resided in the Middle West during his youngest days, but after graduating from a medical college at Cincinnati, Ohio, came to California across the plains in a covered wagon in 1861. For several years be lived near Sacramento, but something over forty years ago he came to Calistoga to practice his profession and continued to make his home here to the time of his death. He was an earnest Christian man of the Seventh Day Adventist faith, and the Bible had been his constant comforter during all his many years of faithful Christian life.
Dr. Banta is survived by a daughter, Mrs. C.W. Young of Whittier, and a son, D.O. Banta, of Kansas. An only brother, Erastus Banta of Calistoga, besides several nieces and nephews, also survive.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning from the funeral parlors of A.H. McArthur, Rev. Ray C. Krug of the Presbyterian church officiating, and interment was made in the Calistoga cemetery.
