October 22, 2021:
Dawn Nel (Brokofsky) Richards of Sultan passed away on September 18, 2021 at the age of 62 after a brief fight with cancer. Dawn was born on July 2, 1959. She was the daughter of Leo Brokofsky and Joan Jellison.
Dawn is survived by her children, sons Bradyn Leyde (Lyn), Casey Leyde (Maie), Kelly Leyde (Yoshimi), and daughter Rebecca Richards, her mother Joan Jellison, sisters Denise Watkins, Leota Brokofsky, Anita Locken, Teri Holcomb, brothers Tyler Brokofsky and Steven Brokofsky. She also leaves behind four grandchildren Quincy, Truman, Skylar and Elaina.
Dawn graduated from Sultan High School and later went back to school to earn her AA from Everett CC. She worked for the Department of Corrections for a number of years before focusing on the family farm.
Family and friends were important to Dawn and she spent extensive time tracing genealogy. She enjoyed bingo, was a lover of animals, and being a grandmother.
Dawn is now together with her husband of 25 years, John, who passed away in January 2021 of cancer.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm on October 23, 2021 at the Startup Event Center, Startup, WA.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to the Sultan Education Foundation as we plan to start a scholarship in John and Dawn Richards name.
