A Time to be Born
A star shined brightly on August 16, 1952, as Thelma Lee James boldly made her entrance into the world. She was the third child born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Levelle (Ruby Harper) James of D'Lo, Mississippi. Thelma has one brother, Jimmie James of Idaho Falls, Idaho and four sisters, Ruby Faye (Charles) Strong of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Sandra James of Jackson, Mississippi, Phyllis Lee of Lithonia, Georgia, and Willie Pearl Turner who preceded her in death.
A Time to Live and Plant
Born of the spirit and truly an angel, Thelma was a caring and loving individual known by many. Thelma attended Harper High in Mendenhall, Mississippi, as well as being an active member of Pine Grove M.B. Church where she was baptized and first accepted the Lord as her Savior. After moving from the D'Lo area, Thelma moved her membership and united with Zion Hill M.B. Church where she remained an active member. Thelma worked at Magnetek in Mendenhall, Mississippi, for 25 years and then began working at Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield, Mississippi, as a direct care worker for 10 years before retiring.
A Time to Cherish Memories
On July 12, 1969, Thelma was joined in Holy Matrimony to Henry C. Hayes, Sr., in a union that lasted for 52 years (to present). To forever cherish her loving memory, Thelma leaves behind three daughters, Lisa James of Cypress, Texas, Wanda Hayes of Magee, Mississippi, and Brandi (Zachery) Gray of Madison, Mississippi; one son, Henry (Persephone) Hayes, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama. Thelma has nine grandchildren, Octavius, Zavian, Brandon, Jordan, Zachary, Nohyjah, India, Yasmeonia and Zakiya. She has two great grandchildren, Madison and Brayah. Thelma held a very special place in her heart for Tina and Nina Magee whom she thought of as her bonus daughters. Thelma has many devoted and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
A Time to Die
During the early morning hours on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, surrounded by family, Thelma quietly drifted away into an eternal rest. Thelma's spirit and star still shines as she leaves this world as the Father says "well done, my good and faithful servant." She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
