Barbara E. "Bobbie" Gilpin, 100, formerly of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 11, 2014, at Gluco Lodge in Hamilton Township, where she was a resident. She was the widow of Donald A. Gilpin, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage at the time of his death in 1981.

Born on March 8, 1913, in Stroudsburg, she was the only child of the late Dr. John E. and Lida (Gearhart) Gregory, and was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

A graduate of Boston University and Sargent College, she was a physical-education teacher at Stroudsburg High School and also taught special education for the Intermediate Unit 20.

Bobbie was a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ in Stroudsburg and also belonged to the Monroe Garden Club, Monroe County Historical Association, Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm, Children's Aid Society, Pennsylvania Association of Retired Retarded Citizens and Stroudsburg High School Alumni Society. She was a past member of the Stroudsburg Junior Women's Club.

She enjoyed summers at their cottage on Lake Mineola. She also did volunteer work at Quiet Valley, Monroe County Historical Association and at her church.

Surviving are two sons: John A. Gilpin and his wife, Sandra, of Hanover, and Donald G. Gilpin and his wife, Carol of Plattsmouth, Neb.; six grandchildren: Andrew Gilpin of Alplaus, N.Y.; Matthew Gilpin and his wife, Julianne, of Arlington, Mass.; Elizabeth Bonagura and her husband, Adam, of Ephrata; Barbara Johnson and her husband, Donavan, of Omaha, Neb.; Donald Gilpin and his wife, Lisa, of Omaha, Neb.; and Colleen Gilpin of Plattsmouth, Neb; eight great-grandchildren; and her son-in-law, John Seidenstricker of Milford.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Jane Seidenstricker, on Oct. 7, 2011.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Zion United Church of Christ, 14 N. Eighth St., Stroudsburg, with the Rev. William E. Ramsden and Pastor David Berryman officiating. Private burial will take place at Stroudsburg Cemetery.
