ANNIE MAE COLLINS of Mendenhall, Mississippi
March 18, 1925 - September 28, 2021

Annie Mae Burkhead Collins, the first of four siblings was born on March 18, 1925 in Vaiden, Mississippi to Ira and Lena Bell Burkhead. Her parents and her siblings; James Manuel, Grank Burkhead, Sr., and Jimmie Celess Brown preceded her in death.

Annie Mae accepted Christ at an early age and grew to become a mature Christian. She loved God and went about her life seeking to please Him. Every chance she got, she loved to engtage in conversations with friends and loved ones to talk about the teachings and the goodness of Christ. She had an insatiable thirst for God's Word and even renrolled in Seminary for a while to learn more about God's Holy Word. She actively pursued God's Will as she gleaned Wisdom that only God can give. Her firm faith in God was the foundation for everything that she did. Annie Mae was indeed a virtuous woman. Until her health failed her, she was an active member of G Grove Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi.

Annie Mae spent her life blessing and caring for others. She possessed a natural kind of joy and enthusiasm that made life brighter for everyone around her. She radiated light and rarely made a fuss about anything. She was the best cook this side of heaven and was always willing and ready to share this gift freely. All who new her recognized her as a Woman of God, a Woman of Wisdom and Understanding, and a Woman of Constant Faith.

"Ms. Annie Mae: as she was often called was a confidant, an encourager, a surrogate mother, an aunt, a sister, a niece, a cousin, and a friend to many. Annie Mae sparkled like a brilliant gem and the years did not diminish her special glow. The years only made her gentle spirit and personality more luminous. At Pine Forest Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, at 96 years young, she was still beautiful and sharing her wisdom and the love of God with others. Even through her bouts with illness and arthritis, her radiant demeanor and smile shined brightly daily. On the night of September 28, 2021, at Pine Forest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, Mississippi, as she slept, the Lord sent His angels to assist with her departure to her heavenly home, her place of eternal sweet rest!

Those left to rejoice, celebrate and cherish the memory of Annie Mae is her beloved sister-in-law of more than 60 years, Charlie Ann Burkhead, Jackson, MS; three nieces, Natalie Twyner (Karl), Kim Wilkes (Homer), and Barbara Dotson (Ike, deceased), all of Jackson, MSl three nepohews, Ralph Brown (Patti), Palm Springs, CA; Cornel Ellis, Jackson, MS; and Frank Burkhead, Jr. (Kathy), Stone Mountain, GA; a cousin, Luther Covington (Shirley), Jackson, MS; great-nieces, Anina deNobriga (Adam) Charlotte, NC; Tegra Brown (Tommy) Jackson, MS; Charlotte Johnson, Jackson, MS; Kymberly Dalton (Steven), Raleigh, NC; great-nephews, William Johnson (Terneshia); Marlan Twyner (Melissa); Channing Twyner (Ashleigh); Jared Twyner, Justin Wilkes, Harrison Wilkes, all of Jackson (Metro Area), MS; Austin Wilkes, Los Angeles, CA; a host of great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, adopted daughter, Gloria Johnson, Mendenhall, MS; and adopted son, James McDonald, Grand Prairie, TX; and a host of special friends and neighbors.
