Tremont - Jack J. McMakin, 79, of 820 S. Locust St. formerly of Pekin, died at 12:09 am Monday, January 16, 2006, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Jack was born January 16, 1927, in Tazewell County to Joseph H. and Bonnie M. (Rosecrans) McMakin. He married Edna Morrison on April 15, 1954, in Tremont, IL.

Surviving are; his wife of Tremont, IL; two daughters, Marilyn (Gary) Hilsenhoff of Mackinaw, IL and Susan (James) Visel of Urbana, IL; one son, Jack J. (Jane) McMakin of Altamonte Springs, FL; three sisters, Myra L. Pfeiffer of Cedar Rapids, IA, Etta M. Park of Peoria, IL and Bonnie J. (Patrick) Parker of Groveland, IL; six grandchildren, Alicia and Marla McMakin, Noah (Marissa) Visel , Diane (Dale) Cope, Kimberly (John) Flyingout and Heather Visel; two step grandchildren, Kim Byers and Christine McAdams; three step great grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army veteran serving from June 5, 1945, to November 23, 1946, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in the European Theater of Operation from November 30, 1945, to October 10, 1946.

He was a Truck Driver for 40 years working for R. A. Cullinan & Sons and Fort Transfer Company in Morton retiring in 1989.

Jack was a member of Pekin Moose Lodge # 916, Tremont American Legion, and the Roy L. King VFW Post # 1232 and a life member Peoria Sportsman's Club in Manito.

He was a member of the Pekin First Church of God where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 18, visitation will be one hour before the service. The Rev. Charles Plogger will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral; interment of the ashes will be private at Antioch Cemetery in rural Dillon. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army. Noel-Henderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
