Obituary for Alan Crook
Alan Crook was born June 8, 1947 in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Samuel Lovell Crook and Mary Miranda (Miller) Crook.

Alan graduated from Knoxville High School and then worked at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center. On September 23, 1967 he was united in marriage to Catherine Rae Van Gilder in Knoxville, Iowa. Alan took a job as a manager for Clark Oil and worked at several locations until 1971, when he became the service manager for Mathias Motors in Knoxville. He worked for Mathias from 1971 to 1997 and then Ring-O-Matic from 1997 to 2011. Alan then worked for the Knoxville Community School District for 8 years, retiring in 2019. No matter where he worked, Alan always gave a 110% and he took great pride in making sure his clients were happy and treated fairly.

Alan was a league bowler for 40 years, many of which he was team captain. He was also an avid golfer. Alan and Cathy were huge supporters of the Knoxville Raceway and rarely missed a race. Win or lose he was always a diehard Chicago Bears fan. Whether he was working or enjoying other activities, Alan always made friends – many of whom fondly called him "Big Al". Alan loved his beloved pup Betsy, who kept him company and was a great companion to him over the years. Alan's greatest joy was his family and he cherished family gatherings and the time they spent together.

Alan passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 74 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Mary Margaret Crook; sister, Carol Jeanne Crook; in-laws, John and Dorothy Goodsell; son-in-law, Rick Shilling and grandson, Dakota Alan Crook.
