Nona was born July 28, 1934, to Murl and Winona Andrews Henderson in Vandalia, Illinois.
She grew up in Mount Vernon, Illinois, where she married her high-school sweetheart, John Philip "Phil" Buford on May 23, 1953. They spent the next 50 years together, until Phil's passing in 2003.
In the course of their many moves, Nona found herself at the helm of numerous Newcomers' Clubs, often as president. After her children were grown, Nona enjoyed a career in bookkeeping.
In DeLand, she worked for The Cloisters, and later, from 1990 to 2003, as the director of tourist-tax collection for Volusia County. She had also been a Realtor for Vincent's Realty of DeLand.
Nona loved her family, big band and jazz music, chocolate, turquoise - the color and the stone, the beach, gardening and flowers, and any kind of party or celebration.
In recent years, she had a passion for football, especially the Chicago Bears, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Florida Gators.
Nona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phil; an infant son, Robert; two brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
