Mr. Ayers lived in Huntingdon County all his life. He had worked for a brief time with his brother, Donald in logging, then for Harbison - Walker Brickyard in Mount Union, and New Holland Equipment in Belleville. In 1963, he went to work for Penn State at the Forest Resources sawmill in Stone Valley and transferred from there to the Penn State Forest Resources Laboratory as a research technician working on forest genetics projects. Thru Penn State he attended the National Lumber Grading School in Memphis, Tennessee and became an accredited national lumber grader. He taught lumber grading classes through Penn States Forestry Department and worked with lumber companies in the state educating their staff in lumber grading. He retired from Penn State in 1991.
He and his wife, Betty had enjoyed traveling and visited Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and went on many bus trips. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, car racing, and gardening with his daughter. He was always ready to lend a hand and help friends and neighbors and would often share many stories about his life growing up. He was truly devoted to his family and to his lord and savior Jesus Christ and shared that devotion with many. James was an amazing man and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated and compassionate Family Hospice staff for the loving care they gave. The family could not have done it without them.
