Sharon Kay Willis - age 68 of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Sharon Kay (Ullery) Willis was born on May 8, 1947, in Leon, Iowa, to parents Howard and Gertrude (Jones) Ullery. She grew up in Lamoni, Iowa. She graduated from Lamoni High School with many honors in music and drama. She attended the University of Iowa, where she acted in several musical theatre productions, particularly The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan. After several short term jobs in Des Moines, she worked as a graphic artist for the Department of Education of the state of Iowa. She continued performing in musical theatre, in Fiddler on the Roof and Cabaret. For years she sang in the professional choir at St. Paul's Episcopalian Church in Des Moines. She won the hog calling contest at the Iowa State Fair one year. It was at work that she met her husband of 33 years, David Willis. They were united in marriage on September 25, 1982, in Des Moines, where they settled. After the couple retired 2009, they moved away from the hectic big city life to live peacefully in Pocahontas, Iowa, with their cats. Sharon made friends wherever she was, even though it became more difficult for her to move about. She is survived by her husband, David; her brother Jerry (Linda) Ullery of Cheyenne, Wyoming; best friend, Jackie Stelter and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.
