Kim Shulman, 45, the youngest son of Queens Borough President Claire Shulman and her husband Dr. Mel Shulman, died suddenly last Saturday in California from a cerebral hemorrhage.

The borough president and members of her family flew to North Hollywood, California on Friday when they were notified that Kim had been rushed to Sherman Oaks Hospital. The young man died the next day.

Shulman was an assistant director for motion pictures and television production and an active member of the Directors Guild of America.

He had moved to California 10 years ago, but was raised in Queens and attended Bayside High School.

His directing career in films included work on "Radio Days," "Showgirls" and "Battleman Forever."

His credits on television productions included "L.A. Law," "China Beach," "Party of Five," "The Visitor" and other lessor known productions.

"This is a great tragedy for our family. Kim was a young man with great promise," Shulman said in a released statement.

The Shulman's adopted Kim from Korea when he was three years old. They have two other grown children, Kim's sister an astronaut/physician who lives in Houston, Texas and Kim's brother is a physician who lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

A spokesperson for the borough president said, "She's taking it very hard." He noted that the family had several of the young man's organs including his kidneys donated to people waiting on a registry list.

Mrs. Shulman indicated that her son's life was saved when he was adopted by her family and the organ donation to help preserve someone else's life was only appropriate.

Services were held on Tuesday with members of the family and friends in attendance.

Shulman, a single parent, is also survived by his 4 year old son.

The publishers and the staff of the Queens Chronicle wish to express their sincere condolences to Mrs. Shulman and her family.
