James Edgar Davenport, 96, of Caledonia went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday October 14, 2021. He was born in Fayette, Ohio to the late Ed and Helen Davenport. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Barbara (Riddering) Davenport. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Agatha Clinton Davenport; his children, Timothy (Vicki) Davenport, Randall Davenport, and Jo (Darold) Parks; three grandchildren, Darold, Jr (Angela) Parks, Jeremiah Parks, and Jennifer Parks; great-grandchildren, Kyelar and Cecelia Parks; and sister, Ann Detwiler. James was an avid sports fan and loved golf and played from age 10. Years. He and Agatha lived in Lansing for 25 years and Grand Rapids for 50 years. James and Agatha enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV. They spent their winters in the Fort Myers, Florida area for 16 years. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and flew 25 missions with the 453rd Bomb Group over Germany. After his discharge from the military he attended Toledo University and Michigan State University. After College he worked for 40 years for Michigan Mutual which later became Amerisure where upon he retired in 1988. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Tuesday October 19, 2021. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at Our Savior Lutheran Church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Blain Cemetery, Gaines Twp.
