Shirley Ann Sager, age 79 of West Newton, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born February 2, 1942 in Fitz Henry, a daughter of the late John R. and Margaret Pearl Shandorf Bryan.

She was a graduate of South Huntingdon High School, class of 1960. A member of the Sewickley United Presbyterian Church of West Newton. She was also a member of the Yukon Senior Center in Yukon and the West Newton Senior Center in West Newton. She was the owner and operator of Shirley's Place in Herminie. She shared her love of cooking by working at several local restaurants throughout the years. She worked as a nurse's aide at Briarcliff Nursing Home, North Huntingdon then worked and retired from Westmoreland Manor as a nursing assistant. She was a great baker and cook; catering family parties and was known for her amazing lady lochs. She made cookies for Christmas presents and family weddings. Shirley loved her family and had a special place in her heart for her legacies; her grandchildren and great-grandson. She was a very special person and people gravitated to her. She was a very hard-working woman who always took care of others before herself; feeding the neighborhood children and handing out popsicles every summer. She played bingo, watched Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, listened to old country music and collected angel figurines. She enjoyed going on train rides with her family to various places, road trips on back roads with family, bus trips with the Senior Center and playing scat at the Yukon Slovenian Hall with her friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle Robert Sager, Sr.; seven brothers, Joseph, John Jr., Robert, James, Earl, Michael and James Bryan; two sisters, Betty Shoaf and Rita Haney.

She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Cosalter of Smithton, Anna Hampton of Charleroi and Tina Hampton of Hutchinson, and their husbands; one son, Merle Robert Sager Jr. of West Newton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson and seven sisters, Sally Stevens, Margaret Bryan, Gertrude Copeland, Easter Sharp, Clara Bradley, Bonnie Frohnhofer and Mary Ashbaugh.

A funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc., Route 136, Madison, Sewickley Township, with Pastor Glenn Hart officiating.

Interment will follow in Westmoreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
