Kathleen Lee Peterson, 68, passed away Sunday morning, October 10, 2021, at her home in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. She had been battling cancer.
No services are planned per Kathy's wishes. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kathleen was born October 9, 1953, in Des Moines, IA, to Larry Lee and Evelyn Joan (Houge) Pratt.
She married Robert James Peterson on March 2, 1972, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kathy, recently retired, worked as an executive secretary for Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. She was also a secretary in the State of Iowa Senate and House of Representatives for decades.
Kathy and Jim loved to travel. She read and collected books and was a member of a book club.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Ladies League. Kathy also was a part of the Best Bunko Club and other neighborhood groups for many years.
She was a great cook but mostly put up the pots and pans and instead she and Jim could often be seen out-to-eat at local restaurants.
Some of her favorite events were seeing new movies at the theater, watching plays, and attending concerts. She loved art and was a fantastic interior decorator.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Jacob David Peterson, Zachary James Peterson (Katie Naset); grandchild, Maddox Zachary Peterson; brother, Larry Lee Pratt (Cindy).
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joel Dolliver Peterson.
She had an extensive family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.
She loved her entire family very much. Kathy's beautiful smile and kindness will be greatly missed by family and friends.
