The Late David McFarlane
In the death of Mr David McFarlane, which took place on Monday, the community lost one of its oldest residents. The late Mr McFarlane, was a brother of Mr Matthew McFarlane, of Ramsay, who died only a few weeks ago. He was for a number of years a resident in Ramsay, living on the Springfield Farm, adjoining the town, but some time ago he disposed of the property and removed to Almonte, where he since resided. He was a man of good education, was well read, and was possessed of intelligence considerably above average. He was gifted with a talent for writing, and both in the local and city papers have appeared many articles from his pen. In his younger days he was fond of travel, and visited not only the land of his forefathers, but also spent some time in continental travel. This with the large amount of reading he did gave him a store of general knowledge mot often acquired by one in his position in life. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and the sermon that reached his standard of what such should be was not a weak or superficial effort. In politics he was an ardent Liberal. The funeral took place on Wednesday to the eighth line cemetery, and was well attended, Rev Mr Bennet officiating.
