EUGENE WILLIAM SHIELDS, 50, died Dec. 7 of heart failure at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., Mr. Shields lived in Riverside 41 years. He was a groundskeeper with the city of Riverside for five years.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years in the 1970s and achieved the rank of staff sergeant.

Mr. Shields is survived by his wife, Sidonie of New York; five daughters, Teresa Richmond, Luciana Gnobo-Shields and Tatiana, all of New York, and Lavendar Scott and Andrea, both of Riverside; three sons, Jonathan Radande of Corona and Markas Scott and Quinton Shields, both of Riverside; his mother, Joan Stolard of Riverside; four grandchildren; two sisters, Tracy Bereal of Riverside and Tanya Finks of Los Angeles; and his grandmother Betty of Pennsylvania.

Services will be at noon Monday at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverside. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday Riverside National Cemetery. Inland Memorial in Riverside is handling arrangements.
