Elizabeth "Betty" Nelson
Boise, Idaho - Elizabeth (Betty) Faye Nelson, 95, died peacefully on October 7, 2021. She was born on September 27, 1926 to Carl and Emma (Benkenstein) Malmin. She was born and lived her entire life in Boise, Idaho. Betty graduated from Boise High School in 1944. After high school she began working for the Orange Trucking Company. Betty married the love of her life, Oscar Nelson, in 1947. Their love and devotion for each other was an inspiration to anyone who knew them. Betty lived a simple live. She was the kindest, gentlest, and most giving person. She and Oscar were always willing to open their home to friends and relatives or help out anyone who needed a hand up. Oscar and Betty loved to travel. They spent much of their retirement traveling around the world or taking their motorhome to adventures across the United States. They especially loved having family vacations that would include siblings and/or their children and grandchildren. One of their favorite places to go with the grandchildren was Disneyland. They also took Betty's mom, Emma, on many of their trips, especially to the Oregon Coast.
Family was the most important thing in the world to Betty. Her pride and joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Betty loved and accepted all of her family for who they are. She was always the first to forgive and always willing to lend a helping hand. Betty and Oscar had several kids and grandkids that they had "adopted" as part of the family. Having her family around her was all she ever needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Oscar "Sonny" Malmin, younger brother Norman Malmin, and her husband of 63 years, Oscar Nelson.
She is survived by her younger sister Carlene Cook, younger brother Lenard Malmin, son Glen Nelson (Janny Sue), daughter Julie (Steve) Dillehay, grandchildren, Samandra (Mike) Farris, Douglas (Karen) Durst, Branden (Cheri) Durst, Ryann Nelson Kuhlman, Coby (Rebecca) Nelson. Great grandchildren, Dakota Myers, Joe, Sydni, and Jake Farris, Connor and Quinlan Durst, Broden, Carter, Graciana, Kaejens, and Pedr David Durst, Tristin and Jaydyn Kuhlman, Bronson Camperud, Owen, Ashlyn, and Corryn (Minnie) Nelson, "adopted son" John Durst, and "adopted granddaughter" Brooke Lacey as well as many nieces and nephews.
Our hearts are breaking over the loss of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many!! We are comforted knowing that she has joined the love of her life in heaven. Rest in peace Mom. You are forever loved and in our hearts.
A viewing will take place at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. 5400 Fairview Avenue Boise, Idaho on October 21st from 10:00 AM – Noon. Graveside service will follow 1:00 PM at Dry Creek Cemetery.
