Born September 3, 1950 in Butler, he was the son of the late John M. McKinney and Ellen Eicher McKinney.
John proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war and was a past Commander of the American Legion Post # 219 of Evans City. He was a former parishioner of St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church in Evans City. Most recently, he worshipped at St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church in Zelienople.
John held many positions in his community over the years, including serving as a board member of the Evans City Public Library, a former member of the Evans City Borough Council, a lifetime member of the Conway Sportmen's Club, and a former member of the Evans City Athletic Association, where he coached football, baseball and softball. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Jo Ann Calabrese McKinney, who he married on June 19, 1971; his children, Jennifer (Christopher) Kerr of Sewickley, and John M. (Daniela) McKinney of Coraopolis; his grandchildren, Sophia and Isabella McKinney; his brother, Thomas R. (Carmen) McKinney of Oklahoma; his sisters, Julia Christ of Ohio, and Lois Fair of Zelienople; and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Spurk.
