James "Jim" Corbin Walton Jr., 73, Rapid City, SD passed away Friday, October 15, 2021.

James was born June 24, 1948 in Aberdeen, SD, to James Corbin and Helen Joyce (McCormick) Walton. He grew up in Webster, SD, and graduated from Webster High School in 1966. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD for one year. In 1981, he received an AA in Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota.

In October 1967, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed at Maxwell AFB, AL; Bien Hoa Air Base, Vietnam; and Lowry AFB, CO as a Security Policeman. Jim was honorably discharged in October 1971. Upon his return to South Dakota, he was employed by the Aberdeen Police Department for three years, then accepted a position with the SD Highway Patrol in 1974 and was stationed at Howard, SD. In 1983, he was promoted to Squad Sergeant and transferred to Rapid City, where he retired in April 1999.

On May 24th, 1974, he was united in marriage to "K.F." of Frederick, SD. To this union three sons were born.

Jim was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Security Police Association, and a member of the American Legion.

Pallbearers will be his sons and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Zion Lutheran Church. Cards may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, 4550 S. HWY 16, Rapid City, SD 57701.

He is survived by his wife; three sons; two grandsons; and two granddaughters.

Celebration of Life Services will be Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 10:00am at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Winckler officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:00pm near Sturgis, SD with military honors provided by the Ellsworth AFB Honor Guard and VFW Post 1273.
