William Sheldon Alexander Sr.

William S. Alexander Sr., 61, of Gordonsville, died on Sunday, October 10, 2021, surrounded by his family at the Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville. He was born on November 12, 1959, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Henry Willis Alexander Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Miles Alexander. He was also predeceased by a sister, Marilyn "Sissy" Alexander.

Willie was a leader, coach and mentor to many student-athletes within Orange County and Central Virginia communities. Aside from his coaching successes and contributions, he was a great athlete and friend in his own right, both on and off the field. After high school, Willie went on to become a self-taught master pressman in the printing industry for nearly 40 years. While he can be remembered as a hardworking athlete and employee, the same could be said for the dedition, love and support he showed his family and friends. Willie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Raines Alexander of Gordonsville; three daughters, Brandy S. Alexander and Christopher L. Carter of Louisa, Brittney N. Alexander of Gordonsville, and Taylor Leigh of Gordonsville; one son, W. Sheldon Alexander Jr. and wife, Sarah, of Charlottesville; 11 grandchildren, DeQuece Carter, Dezmajia Carter, Dyzier Carter, D'Versaye Carter, Mark Carter Jr., Destinee Alexander, Dezyire Alexander, D'Viyne Alexander, Daija Alexander, Porter Alexander, and Wyatt Alexander; two brothers, Craig Alexander and Henry "Boone" Alexander Jr.; and five sisters, Sharon Hughes, Jennifer Jackson, Jacqueline "Jackie" Alexander, Shiela Lewis, and Sonya Ford.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange. Pastor John Reid will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange. Interment will be held at the Graham Cemetery, Orange. Anyone attending the family night or the chapel service are required to wear face mask.
