Reverend John H. Bright of Muskogee, Oklahoma, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born Friday, March 8, 1929 in Poteau, Oklahoma to John Hilary and Sara Ellen (McAdoo) Bright. John grew up in Arkansas and Arizona. Upon, returning to Arkansas where he worked for Alma Canning Company.
On Thursday, May 26, 1949, John married the love of his life, Ellen Moore, on the creekbank in Mulberry, Arkansas. They were married 72 years. John accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at 26 years of age. He began preaching and built his first church in Locke, Arkansas. The Bright's pastored at many locations throughout the years beginning with Locke, Arkansas; Uniontown, Arkansas; Fairfax, California; Spiro, Oklahoma; Terrell, Oklahoma; Fairfax, California; Red Oak, Oklahoma; Terrell, Oklahoma; Tipton, Oklahoma; Asphault, Oklahoma; Tipton, Oklahoma; Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; Elm Grove, Oklahoma. While pastoring, John worked as a roofer and farmed.
John loved the church, he played the guitar, he had a good ear for music and a great bass voice. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. John enjoyed fishing and loved his dogs. He will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Lonnie Houston Bright
John is lovingly survived by his wife of 72 years, Ellen of the home; sons, Johnny Howard Bright and his wife Rita of Oktaha, and Gary Wayne Bright and his wife Alice of McAlester; daughters Sharon Kay Glenn of Henryetta,TX and Karon Fay McGreger and her husband JT of Muskogee. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Bright of Alma, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
Viewing will be from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday, October 18, 2021, with his family greeting friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home, Checotah. Services celebrating the life of Reverend John Bright will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Granite Station Cowboy Church with his grandsons Dwayne Bright, Phillip Bright and Reverend David Bright officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Warner Memorial Cemetery in Warner, Oklahoma under the personal direction of John Garrett. Braxton Graham, Paul Bright, William Bright, Charles Bright, Robert Bright and Colton Terrell are serving as Casket Bearers. John H. Bright IV, John H. Bright V, Caitlin Bright, Kayanna Graham, Andrea Comia and Patrick Bright are serving as Honorary Casket Bearers.
