Bernice Taylor's passing at the age of 83 on Sunday, December 20, 2020 has been publicly announced by Davis-Watkins Funeral Homes & Crematory in Fort Walton Beach, FL .

Bernice Taylor, age 83, of Navarre, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at her home. She was born on May 10, 1937 to Cecil and Azaleea Schexnider Hewitt.

Bernice was a loving mother of all her children. She remained dedicated and connected to all of them even after moving away. She was always excited by any visits or phone calls no matter how brief. Bernice was a devout Christian who showed no fear in death but rather remained the ultimate mother only fearing of how her children would grieve when she was gone. Bernice loved flowers and gardening and took great pride in winning the yard of the month at her housing complex. Bernice was a firecracker at dominos and loved to play with her family, occasionally she would let them win. More than anything, this loving mother loved to cook for her family. It brought her the most joy to see her family gathered around a fantastic feast she would make, especially her authentic Cajun gumbo. Even in her final moments, Bernice's only request was to make sure everyone was ok, a true mother until the end.

Bernice is survived by her children, Vida (Brian) Casey of Ludowici, GA, Cecil D. Taylor of Las Vegas, NV, Bryant Taylor Houston, Texas,, Gregory Taylor of Navarre, FL, and Holly (Christopher) Green of Navarre, FL; and 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Hugh "Mac" Taylor; daughter, Sybil Taylor; and brothers, Curtis Hewitt and Cecil J. Hewitt.

The family will receive friends at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 113 NE Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, FL, on Monday, December 28, 2020 from 12 pm to 2 pm with the services beginning at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
