Doris Jean (Stevens) Harvey of Hilton Head, SC and West Yarmouth, MA. Born June 24, 1932, in Malden, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Champney) Stevens. Doris was a 1950 graduate of Girls Catholic HS, Malden, MA where she met her future husband, Gerald, who attended Boys Catholic (Malden Catholic). Doris went on to nursing school at Carney Hospital, South Boston. Although she had hopes of going on to medical school after she received her RN in 1953, her mother frowned on that idea and suggested she go to work. With the encouragement and support of her soon to be husband she instead entered the new nurse anesthetist program at Carney Hospital. Doris and Gerald were married in September 1953, much to the dismay of the Daughters of Charity at Carney who assured her she'd never finish the CRNA program as a wife and mother. Doris was undeterred and finished the program on schedule, despite becoming pregnant with her first child. She practiced as a nurse anesthetist at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford and then for over 30 years at Malden Hospital, alongside her kindergarten, grammar school, high school, nursing school and anesthesia school classmate and best friend Marie Appleton. She was a skilled anesthetist whose work was valued by countless surgeons and residents, not to mention her many patients.

Doris and Gerald raised 7 children in their home in Malden, educating all of them in Catholic schools and doing whatever they could to help those schools succeed. Saturday morning was always pancake morning after hockey practice for whoever happened to show up at the door, hockey pads and all. She worked bingo every Tuesday evening at Malden Catholic while her 6 sons attended school there. As a faithful parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden, she was a member of the first parish council that was established after the second Vatican Council. She was also the oncall nurse for the Sisters, Brothers and priests. She and Gerald retired to their home in West Yarmouth on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

She'd enjoy cooking for all her grandchildren and initiating impromptu parades marching around the house on holidays. They also began to spend winters on Hilton Head with their daughter; her sisters and friends Marie and Dan Appleton would all spend time there as well. She was a phenomenal and hospitable host who loved to cook and certainly had lots of practice with her large family. She is survived by her devoted husband Gerald; her children Paul and his wife Nancy of Woodstock, Georgia; Stephen and his partner Dot of Reading, MA; Jack and his wife Merry of Holly Springs, NC; Jean of Hilton Head, SC; Brother Lawrence Harvey, CFX of Baltimore, MD; Daniel and his fiancée Debra of Millis, MA; as well as her daughter in law Carol of Winthrop, MA; and her grandchildren Ryan, Colin, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Shawn, Daniel, Meghan and Emma; her 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, not to mention numerous "grand-dogs". She was predeceased by her loving son Robert, as well as by her siblings Robert Stevens, Ethel Rogers, Claire Elliott and Jane Varley.
