Her father was a good farmer and as soon as the children were big enough, they were given chores to do and to learn responsibility. Joan had a happy childhood. After she graduated from High School, she attended Ricks College. She took accounting and business classes as well as choir and private vocal lessons. She used what she learned in all of these classes over the years after she finished school.
On the 18th of February 1949, a new baby sister Reva Diane, was born into the family. Joan rejoiced to have a new little baby sister.
In the summertime she came home and worked in the field and in warehouses. At one time she was head grader over a potato sorting crew. A young inspector came in and told her the potatoes needed re-run, so she ran them thru again, and again he turned them down. She became very upset with him. His name was Dee Lamar Harris. He later became her husband.
Joan had longed to have a business. Dee was sick from some experiences he had in the Navy. They had the opportunity to purchase the American Window Products. It later became Joan's Interiors. She enlarged the business opening offices in Boise, Nampa and Ontario, Oregon. She was very successful with her business. It covered a period of over 40 years. She sold over 9,000 jobs from 1961 to 2002.
Joan and Dee were blessed to have two children, Joseph Lamar and Diantha Deon. They have been a joy through her life. Dee passed away May 12, 1972, leaving Joan to raise a family and run the business. She was successful in both responsibilities.
Through a close friend, in 1984, she was introduced to Warren Widdison, from Rexburg, Idaho. They seemed to have much in common and were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 10, 1985. They have had a wonderful life together. They have both been active in The Church. They served three years in the Boise Idaho Temple Presidency; served a two year mission for The Church in Madrid, Spain; served in the Boise Idaho mission as resource missionaries. Joan has worked in all of the church auxiliaries. She served as president of the Ward Relief Society. She started working in the Boise Temple when it was first dedicated in 1984, and was released in 2020, for a total of 36 years. Joan has also done much civic work, not only in decorating but as part of the various civic organizations.
