John Edward Flanagan was born on Nov 6, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York and died on October 14, 2021.

Survived by his loving spouse of over 52 years Anne M "Snooks" McCloskey Flanagan, father of James Joseph (Carla), and Kelly Anne (Jeff Shrode), grandfather of Emily Renee Shrode and Jonathan William Shrode. Survived also by his sisters Peggy Clarke (Gerald V), and Hannah Johnston (William P). He was predeceased by his parents James J and Margaret R (Rogan), and brothers James Joseph and David Patrick. Loving uncle to many, and Godfather to four, Peggy Rogan, Susan Flanagan, Terry Johnston and Charles John McCloskey.

John and entered the Army through the draft. He served on active duty for twenty years and retired as Major (Armor and Aviation Branch). John published a book about his first tour in his book "Born in Brooklyn…Raised in the CAV!"

Upon retirement the Flanagans settled in Radcliff, KY where he entered the defense contracting business in the training and simulation arena culminating as the CEO of Bedrock Company Inc.

John was active in the community and served as the principal officer or board member of several bodies. He is Past Master Camp Knox Masonic Lodge 919; Scottish Rite; KARAM Grotto; KOSAIR Shrine Temple; National Sojourners; Heroes of '76'; OPTIMIST Club of Radcliff; Vine Grove Community Leadership Program; VFW Post 10281; American Legion 113; AUSA; MOAA; VHPA; Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association; Radcliff Small Business Alliance; among others. He served on Radcliff's Planning and Zoning Commission for many years, and represented Radcliff on LTAAD Workforce Investment Board.

Visitation for John will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22 at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff. The funeral service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 22 at the funeral home. A committal service with military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY.
