Eldo was born at Halstead, Kansas, son of Ara H. and Hattie May Boyer Steele. He attended Mt. Pleasant Dist #41 grade school and Halstead High school. He was the first football captain for Halstead High School. He was a lifetime Halstead resident and a retired farmer. He served in Company I, 310 Infantry, 3rd Batallion, 78 Lightning Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served at the front of Acchen, Germany. He received a battlefield commission as 1st Lt. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, Bronze Star,3 different theater stars, a President Citation, the Lightning Patch, Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Leadership Badge and a Good Conduct Medal.
