This is my great-great-grandfather. He was a well known iceboat racer, a Charter member of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club, designing and building his own boats. He was known as "Uncle Dan" by the other members and would be out on the ice before daybreak and after sundown, even going for moonlit rides, unaffected by the cold. He was still taking people out for rides when he was 72 years old and at age 80 he was the first person to go sleigh riding in the snow in Red Bank in 1926.

He also owned and raced horses in Freehold & Long Branch. One I know of was named "Tar Baby" in 1925.

By trade he was a mason and did much work in the Red Bank, NJ, area.

I believe his middle name was probably Vannote but have no evidence.
