Carol Rhea (Spomer) King, daughter of Huldrich and Laruma (Stabel) Spomer, was born August 6, 1939 in Shattuck, OK. She passed from this life in Friona, TX, on October 12, 2021 at the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 6 days. Carol grew up in a house that was built by family members south of Shattuck, OK, where her family owned a dairy and farmed. Carol attended Shattuck Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1957. She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and following high school graduation, Carol furthered her education at Loma Linda University, a Seventh-day Adventist University in Loma Linda, CA. The university offered a learning environment of faith, health, and science and Carol completed her studies in 1961 obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. After graduation, she worked at Loma Linda Hospital where she met her husband, Ross King, who was a patient in the hospital. They were united in marriage on July 21, 1962, and they made their home in Frazier Mountain Park, CA, while she worked privately for Dr. Loflin. They were blessed with the arrival of their son, Jon Stephan, in June of 1963. In April of 1964, the family returned to Carol's hometown, and the family farm, of Shattuck, OK, and in 1966 they were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Sherri Ann.
After returning home, Carol first worked as a private nurse for the Schultz Family, as well as, other families in the surrounding communities. Carol then began a lengthy career as a registered nurse at Newman Memorial Hospital working as a Home Health nurse, a charge nurse, and as the Director of Nursing, always willing to help wherever needed. After retiring from Newman Memorial, Carol went to work at the Shattuck Nursing Home where she worked as the Director of Nursing. She was dedicated to her community and served as a volunteer at the Ellis County Food Bank and the Shattuck Windmill Park. One of her personal hobbies that brought her joy was gardening. Carol loved to grow a garden, always proud of her tomatoes and squash, and Ross especially loved the watermelons. She was a loving wife and mother, making extra efforts to always cook a special cake or pie on birthdays. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Jon King and his wife, Trina, of Shattuck, OK, and Sherri Kerr and her husband, Shawn, of Lazbuddie, TX. Three special grandsons, Tracen Rabon, Conrad King, and Emitt King, and three step grandchildren, Taylor, Bo and Luke Kerr, her aunt, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband of 54 years, Ross King.
