On July 30, 1950 Marlene was united in marriage to LeRoy Walker at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. They were blessed with three children. Marlene continued her teaching career at Cylinder, Emmetsburg, Newell and Gillet Grove. She especially enjoyed her time teaching mentally challenged students in Emmetsburg. She retired after 40 years of teaching.
Marlene enjoyed going camping with the kids when they were young, making a few trips to the Black Hills. She was the leader of the Irish Dance Team for several years and was the first lady to join the Emmetsburg Kiwanis group. Marlene collected and repaired dolls of all types. She opened The Doll House and gave many tours throughout its existence. Marlene and LeRoy traveled from Nashville to Texas to visit their daughters and their families. They began wintering in McAllen, Texas and continued this for twenty five years. Marlene also enjoyed going to the Casino.
Marlene passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Marlis Wigen; two brothers, Neal Wigen in infancy and Louis Wigen, Jr.; and two sisters, Bonnie Bowman and Peggy Wigen.
