Betty Jean Burns, 96, of McArthur, passed away on, Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Maple Hills Nursing & Rehab in McArthur. She was born February 26, 1925, in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Goldie Adkins Freyermuth. She was the widow of the late John Newman Burns.

During WW II, Betty worked at Curtis Wright, installing aileron cables on Navy Hellcats. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Chesrown Olds and several other companies.

Betty is survived by her son, Steven (Valerie) Burns of McArthur; granddaughter, Beth (Adam) Schwarzkopf of Sylvania, Ohio; great grandson, Logan Schwarzkopf; sister-in-law, Shirley Freyermuth; and her dog, Sam.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Freyermuth.

Funeral services will be at 5:00 PM, Monday, October 18, 2021, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor David Peoples officiating. Friends may visit from 3:00 to 5:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Interment at a later date in Hamden Cemetery, Hamden.
