****Hezekiah Lindsey is NOT the son of a David Lindsey [as has erroneously been repeated through written genealogies, see note below], DNA research has proven several valuable points:
1. Hezekiah Lindsey's YDNA has been tested and assigned to Haplogroup I-M253.
2. Hezekiah Lindsey, b. 1747, was the ancestor of L0038 in Lindsay Surname DNA Project Group 2.
3. YDNA proves a link between Hezekiah Lindsey and Edmond Lindsey Sr that could be father/son or uncle/nephew or cousin.
4. YDNA also links to a Stephen Lindsey, b. ca. 1775, who happened to follow Hezekiah to Kentucky and to Ohio. Stephen's mother's maiden name was BEASLEY, and sister to the Alice Beasley taken in by Hezekiah after the Revolutionary War.

Hezekiah Lindsey was a Revolutionary War Patriot who served as a Private in the Virginia 9th Regiment under Colonel John Gibson of the Virginia Line, and in the 13th Virginia Regiment under Capt. Uriah Springer's company for three years. Hezekiah also served in the Westmoreland regiment alongside fellow patriots David Colglazier, James John, Nehemiah Ward and Jesse Swem.

Prior to his service, Hezekiah Lindsey had moved from Frederick County, Virginia to the Fort Pitt, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania area where he was taxed as a landowner by 1768.

Additionally, according to research done by Susan Grabek, a 1770 Deed of Release between Edmund Lindsey, Sr. and his son Jacob Lindsey for land in Frederick County, Virginia shows Hezekiah as an adjoining landowner to Edmond Lindsey Sr. Edmond Lindsey Jr., who also appeared in Fort Pitt records, was also named on the 1770 deed. Jacob Lindsey has been proven a son of Edmond Lindsey Sr.(b. 1697) and his wife, Elizabeth Beasley by DNA.

Hezekiah married Elizabeth Fisher, daughter of Adam Fisher and Sarah Nichols, in 1767 in Baltimore County, Maryland [no document has been found to date to prove this]. Together they were the parents of the following 11 children:

- Nancy Lindsey, b.1768; d.1813
- Mary Lindsey, b.1769; d.1825
- John Lindsey, b. 1774; d. 1847
- Manley Lindsey, b. 1776; d.
- Philip Lindsey, b. 13 Feb 1780; d. 22 May 1866
- Hezekiah Lindsey, Jr., b. 5 Jan 1781; d. 22 May 1865
- William Lindsey, b.1782; d. 1864
- Alice Lindsey, b.16 Jan 1785; d. 1860
- Catherine Lindsey, b. 30 Jul 1788; d. 29 Aug 1842
- Elijah Lindsey, b. 1790; d.18??
- Lydia Frances Lindsey, b.1792; d. 1856

Hezekiah Lindsey lived in present day Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War. Records there show that he moved several times while he lived in the area. In 1783, Hezekiah sold his land in present day Bullskin, Fayette County (in 1770 was Tyrone, Westmoreland County) to Isaac Meason. Hezekiah later lived in present day East Huntingdon Township, in Westmoreland County. When Hezekiah lived there, the township had not yet been divided, and it was simply Huntingdon Township. This is where many of his children were born.

Shortly after the birth of Lydia, the Lindsey family, along with the Mattox, Fisher and Nichols families moved west, first to Kentucky, before settling in Clermont County, Ohio before 1800.
During the crossing of the Ohio River, the family built flatboats from trees cut by the river and floated down the Ohio River to Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky. They remained there for awhile, then moved on to Campbell County, Kentucky. This was their residence for a short time until the final move into Ohio. Hezekiah Lindsey was one of the earliest settlers of Ohio Twp, Clermont County, Ohio, before 1800.

In 1818, when Hezekiah applied for a pension, Andrew Chalmers testified on his behalf:
"Andrew Chalmers and being duly sworn according to law deposeth and sath that he saw the above named Hezekiah Lindsey at Ft. Pitt in the state of Pennsylvania in the year 1780. That he traveled, having obtained furlow with him while both of them were on their way home about 40 miles. That he this deponent understood and does verily believe that the said Hezekiah had served in the American Army of the revolution against the common enemy."
According to his pension file, Hezekiah was granted a monthly pension of $8.00 a month, commencing 5 Jun 1818. In his final years, Hezekiah Sr lived with his son Hezekiah Jr and family.

*** Thanks to the extraordinary work of the Lindsay/Lindsey Surname DNA Project, a great wealth of genealogical myths have been disproved, [or in certain cases proven!] the most repetitive of which was the assumption that the father of Hezekiah was a "David from Scotland/Ireland...". This is a MYTH and has definitively been DISPROVED.

~§~Susan Grabek~§~ has done an incredible amount of work in uncovering the paper trail to follow Hezekiah, and she smartly states "The 1963 manuscript recompiled by Margaret Watson Cooke [**source below] contains a lot of information about the descendants of Hezekiah Lindsey. Though DNA testing has proved that some of Cooke's information is untrue, it is still a valuable resource for those researching Hezekiah Lindsey and his descendants."
